Do I need to be technical to use this?
No. The installation guide walks you through every step — including what Terminal is and where to find it on your computer. If you can unzip a file and type one command, you can run this app.
What's an Anthropic API key, and do I need one?
Anthropic makes the AI (Claude) that powers the Deep Scan feature. You sign up at console.anthropic.com, add a payment method, and generate a key. It's pay-per-use — you're only charged when you scan a book, and a typical scan runs $0.50 to $2.00. If you only want word count tracking and outlines, you don't need a key at all.
Does this work with Scrivener?
Yes. It reads .scriv project folders directly, parsing the internal RTF files to extract your text. It also works with Word .docx files and plain text.
Is my manuscript sent to the cloud?
The app runs entirely on your computer. Your manuscript text is only sent to Anthropic's API when you manually trigger a Deep Scan — and only the chapter text, not your entire file. Basic scanning (word count, outlines) never sends anything anywhere.
Does it work on both Mac and Windows?
Yes. The download includes setup scripts for both Mac and Windows, and the installation guide has instructions for both platforms.
Can I use this for multiple books and series?
Absolutely. That's what it's built for. Add as many books as you want, organize them by series and genre, and filter your dashboard by manuscript status — planning, in progress, revision, completed, or published.
What if the AI gets a character wrong or creates duplicates?
It happens — the AI might list "Detective Boucher" and "Max Boucher" as separate characters. The app has a built-in merge tool that lets you select duplicates, pick the primary record, and combine them with one click. You stay in control of your bible.
Is this a subscription?
No. You buy it once and it's yours. The only recurring cost is Anthropic's API usage, which you control through your own account — and you can set a monthly spending limit there if you want.
